Our Mission
Friends of Rye Nature Center (FRNC) is an independent, not-for-profit organization which offers programs to people of all ages and abilities. We encourage conservation, provide environmental education, and support our community’s access to nature.
Conservation
We preserve, protect, and manage our 47-acre forest so it can be studied and enjoyed by our community. Our active land stewardship practices today ensure that our Nature Center will be here for future generations.
Education
We immerse all ages into the environment through hands-on learning programs. Our teachers and naturalists foster a respect for and connection to the natural world.
Community
We collaborate with other not-for-profit groups and local families to ensure that nature is accessible to everyone. Through donor-supported scholarships and funding, we provide environmental education and programming so that no one is left inside.
Our Goals
Strategic Plan 2023-2025
Friends of Rye Nature Center’s latest Strategic Plan, finalized in 2023, considers the growth of our community and the variety of interests and needs this growth brings.
-
Develop more opportunities to engage and educate those in our community and beyond through updated programs with a focus on accessibility.
-
Promote our 47-acres as the community's space for recreation/conservation education. Inspire all people to protect the forest and invest in its succession and health.
-
Ensure our program reach touches all ages. Create segmented educational opportunities for senior citizens, teachers, adults, families, and students.
-
Provide a safe and enjoyable environment for educational programs and visitors. Plan, design, and construct relevant capital projects and improvements that support FRNC's growth, enhancement, and mission.
Board of Directors
Friends of Rye Nature Center’s Board consists of dedicated representatives and community leaders. They represent the diversity of our membership and contribute significant amounts of time, talent, and energy to ensure the growth of the Rye Nature Center as a non-profit organization, environmental education facility, and public park.
Our Staff
The FRNC team brings a wide range of skills and specialties to the organization, but we all share the same vision — to educate children and adults about the natural world and assist them in becoming stewards of the environment.
